The Versailles Area Historical Society is an all volunteer, non profit organization and all proceeds benefit the Versailles Area Museum.

Members, Volunteers, and Donors are the Cornerstones

Another year is coming to a close.  As I reflect about the museum over the past years, I can’t help but think about all the friends of the museum.  When the Area Historical Society began in 2009, we didn’t dare think ahead to this moment.  Never in our wildest dreams did we think we would be where we are today!  And it’s all because of you; yes you, the member reading this newsletter!!

From forming the Historical Society, to getting our tax exempt status, to gaining a museum building, our Founding Members, to yearly memberships, to creating a museum, to sustaining the museum, it’s been you!  We couldn’t do what we do without all your support.
                                                                                                    Cornerstones Of Success

From artifacts and pictures donated to items on loan, it’s just amazing what has arrived at the museum from your collections, from your attics, barns, basements and garages!
And volunteerism is alive and well here too!  We have a volunteer Board, volunteers doing all the data entry for artifacts (whether on loan or donated), volunteers cleaning, mowing, sweeping, snow removal, flower gardening, taking care of our beautiful ferns, setting up and taking down displays, replacing light bulbs, fixing what has broken, building shelving, carrying boxes, taking care of memberships, dreamers who think of new displays, (yes it takes those too)!  We have book writers, military room caretakers, cookie bakers, volunteers for the Speaker Series, Lasts Mondays of the Month and Student Field Trips, dessert makers and the list goes on and on!

Grants and sustaining donations have been realized from the Booher Foundation, the Darke County Foundation, the Greater Versailles Foundation and the Dayton Foundation.  We continue to receive contributions from Kroger Community Rewards and Thrivent Lutheran.
Since 2009 many local organizations and businesses have helped us to succeed.  I just can’t name them all because I will forget someone.  But the whole Versailles Area has supported the museum since we started holding meetings in the Town Hall Council Room in 2009.

We absolutely couldn’t keep the museum doors open without all your monetary donations, whether through memberships or contributions.   As with every home or business it takes money to operate.  Every month when our treasurer (she keeps track of every penny) reads her report, I hold my breath till she is finished.

To those of you who renew your membership year after year or make a donation to help the Museum operate, I thank each and every one of you!!!  A “Thank You” doesn’t seem adequate but this big THANK YOU is from the bottom of my heart!!!!!

My hope is that you have a Blessed Christmas and a Wonderful New Year!!
